Crane Song ☼ Music Video
SYNOPSIS
Lighting cracks. The crane's wings give way to wind. It squawks in pain. It crashes into the water.
Silence carries the mangled bird.
Silence carries the mangled bird.
A girl kneels by the bird. She lays her hand gently along his wing. The crane stirs, lifting its head, and cries out in a strained, fading voice:
“I am the last of my kind… please… help me carry on.”
She lifts his head into her lap and holds him in the dark. Her voice is soft, almost indistinguishable from the night, as she whispers to him, though whether in comfort or prayer she cannot tell.
That night, she dreams of flight.
In the days that follow, she grows pregnant.
In her sleep, birds rise from her mouth in quiet streams, dissolving into the pale sky until they are no longer visible, only felt - like breath leaving the body and becoming something larger.
She wakes early. The creek is cold around her legs as she wades forward. She pauses, tilts her head upward, and studies the open blue above.
“Will my children ever feel the same sky as you once did?” she asks it, as though the sky might remember.
